Velta Delivers 2,000 Waterbutts Across Wales, Supporting Sustainable Water Use
Velta, in partnership with Dŷr Cymru Welsh Water (DCWW), has successfully completed a large-scale initiative to install 2,000 fully funded waterbutts across Wales. This project was designed to promote sustainable water use, helping households reduce their reliance on potable water and instead utilise collected rainwater for outdoor use, such as watering gardens and vegetable patches. By making better use of rainfall, the initiative also contributes to water conservation and cost savings for residents.
Driving Sustainability Through Innovation
Rainwater is naturally soft, free from minerals and salts, making it a more environmentally friendly option for plant watering. The initiative aimed to reduce water waste and encourage long-term conservation efforts. Through careful pre-planning, digital tracking, and an efficient installation process, Velta successfully minimised disruptions while maximising project impact.
Efficient Project Execution & Carbon Footprint Reduction
A key part to the project success was the precision management of the installation process:
Strategic Scheduling: Weekly collaboration with Welsh Water ensured a structured, region-by-region rollout across Wales.
Pre-Planning Tools: Customers provided photos and videos of their downpipe locations in advance, allowing Velta to determine the right fittings, ensure accessibility, and avoid unnecessary travel, significantly reducing the project’s carbon footprint.
Seamless Logistics Management: Efficient coordination of waterbutt deliveries and installation teams ensured up to eight successful installations per day.
Digital Integration: The VYN data system was used to track applications, schedule installations, and document progress, ensuring full compliance and efficiency.
