Velta was appointed to upgrade the Gurnos Ring Road to enhance active travel, improve road safety, and provide better access to key services. Our works included a new 500m-long, 3m-wide shared-use path with improved links to nearby housing estates, alongside major junction modifications and new pedestrian crossings.
When we identified a pinch point caused by an existing embankment, we developed and delivered a cost-effective retaining wall solution, preserving full path width in line with active travel standards.
We also delivered new drainage systems, carriageway surfacing, signage, lighting and traffic islands. Traffic and pedestrian management was carefully planned to maintain access with roads fully reopened each evening.
