Water Main Layer

Velta Construction is seeking experienced Water Main Layers to join our growing utilities division. Working on water infrastructure projects across South Wales, the Cotswolds, and Reading, you will play a key role in the installation, replacement, repair, and maintenance of clean water networks.

Working as part of a dedicated delivery team, you will help ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Installation and replacement of water mains and associated pipework.
  • Service connections and diversions.
  • Excavation, pipe laying, jointing, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Reading and interpreting utility drawings and site plans.
  • Working safely within live utility environments.
  • Assisting with reinstatement and site restoration works.
  • Carrying out daily plant, equipment, and tool inspections.
  • Supporting the delivery of projects in line with client specifications and programme requirements.
  • Ensuring compliance with company Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality procedures.
  • Participating in toolbox talks, briefings, and training activities.

  • CSCS Card
  • SHEA Water
  • National Water Hygiene Card
  • Manual Handling
  • Abrasive Wheels
  • First Aid
  • EUSR Categories 1 & 2
  • Streetworks (NRSWA)

 

Desirable Qualifications

  • NCO Water Mains & Services
  • Excavator (Below and/or Above 10T) – CPCS or NPORS
  • Forward Tipping Dumper – CPCS or NPORS
  • Confined Spaces
  • Temporary Works Awareness

Personal Attributes

  • Previous experience working on water mains replacement and rehabilitation projects.
  • Knowledge of water industry specifications and standards.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong commitment to safety and quality.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexible approach to working hours and locations.
