Velta has successfully completed a major programme of bridge works as part of the Welsh Government’s A465 Heads of the Valleys upgrade, delivering high-quality structural repairs across several critical sites with zero defects and no environmental incidents.
Working on viaducts and bridges along the route, including Taf Fawr, Nant Ffrwd, Nant Hir, and Court Lodge – Velta undertook a wide range of structural repair and remediation tasks. These included concrete defect repairs, bearing replacements, and parapet installations, all carried out in challenging live-traffic and environmentally sensitive conditions.
Across each site, Velta combined technical expertise with sustainable practices, using carbon-neutral materials and precision methods to ensure long-term durability and compliance. Advanced access techniques such as MEWPs, underbridge units, and scaffolding were employed to safely reach soffits, abutments, and decks, while all works were closely managed under rigorous quality assurance regimes.
Digital QA systems were used to record progress in real time, enabling full visibility for stakeholders and producing detailed, auditable health and safety files. Several phases of work were delivered ahead of schedule, and traffic disruption was minimised through coordinated closures and night-time working.
The successful completion of these complex works reinforces Velta’s reputation as a trusted delivery partner for critical infrastructure projects, combining innovation, safety, and quality at every stage.
